Photographic Emulsion
Why use an emulsion ? On 95% of work a direct emulsion can be used for a stencil. Its only when very fine halftones are needed to be produced, and on a few other specialized requirements, that an indirect film needs to be used. The emulsion stencil is far less costly than a film stencil, and can achieve as good a reproduction as a film. If used correctly (cost factor 1 to 20 in favour of the Emulsion) Different types of Emulsions There are three types of emulsions, one for textiles, or solvent based inks, also emulsions that will handle both. And also two different types of sensitizers for the above. One being Diazo and the other Bichromate. As printers have a preference for one or the other, we carry a large range as follows;
Emulsion Coaters ![]() To coat screens with emulsion, Stock sizes to fit stock screens, Other sizes made to order. |
Photographic Films
Although a film stencil is more expensive to use than an emulsion stencil It does give better detail & a sharper print. Films can be placed into 3 catagories
hydrogen peroxide bath, washed out in water then mounted onto the screen. It can achieve very fine detail while maintaining stencil strength. Autotype 5 Star Sold per 104 x 1000cm rolls (Fine detail work.) Autotype Green Star Sold per 104 x 1000cm rolls (Heavy duty film.)
then mounted on to the screen, an easy film to use, ideal in a school situation. Novastar Sold per 104 x 500cm rolls - Ideal for school use.
dried & exposed, then washed out in water Ideal for longer print runs, easy to use, and available in different film thickness. Also with this film, a direct emulsion can be applied to the squeegee side of the screen thereby giving even longer print runs. Autotype Capillex Sold per 104 x 1000cm rolls in 18, 25, 35 & 50 micron thickness. The thicker the film, the more ink deposit laid. Autotype Capillex XR Sold per 104 x 500 & 1000cm rolls in 30 & 80 micron thickness. (Water resistant) Other Films, Hand cut & Drawing ect.. |
| Lacquer Blockout
Suitable for all inks except lacquer based inks; wash out with Lacquer Thinner ect.. Sold per 1lt & 4lt |
Blue Water Base Blockout (Slow)
A slow drying blockout, suitable for all inks except water based. Can be force dryed in front of a heater. Although slow drying, it is more solvent resistant, compared with Fast Blue Excellent for touching up pinholes. Sold per 1lt, 5lt, 25lt. |
Blue Water Base Blockout (Fast)
A fast drying blockout, suitable for all inks except water based. for fast screen turnover Sold per 1lt, 5lt, 25lt. |
